Parking and hiding a group
There are two ways to take a tracker group off your screen, and they do very different things. Choosing the wrong one either leaves data in your totals that you meant to remove, or takes it out when you only wanted a tidier list.
The difference in one line
| Hiding | Parking | |
|---|---|---|
| What it does | Leaves the group off two screens | Withholds the group from everything |
| Still in balances, reports and totals? | Yes | No |
| Still resolves in form references and computed figures? | Yes | No |
| Reversible? | Yes | Yes |
| Use it for | Decluttering | Retiring |
Hiding a group
Hiding is display only. The group carries on exactly as before — balances still net it, global metrics still compute over it, form references still resolve to it, reports still count it. It is simply not drawn on the Tracked Groups list or the dashboard.
Use it when somebody has twenty groups and works with four of them.
Hiding and unhiding
From the group's actions on the Tracked Groups page. Needs Level 6 clearance, and you must be whitelisted on the group.
Seeing hidden groups again
Turn Show hidden on. The toggle lives on the Tracked Groups page only, and your choice is remembered on that device.
Hiding never changes a figure
This is the whole point of it. If turning a group's visibility off changed a total, hiding would silently be parking, and totals would move with nobody having asked. So no figure anywhere is filtered on it.
Parking a group
Parking takes the group out of circulation entirely. Nothing downstream can see it: it leaves the lists, the dashboard, the totals, the reports and the reference pickers.
Use it when a group's life is over — a site closed, a fleet sold, a product range discontinued — and you want its history kept but out of the way.
Parking
From the group's actions. Needs Level 6 clearance and the whitelist, same as hiding.
Getting one back
Tracked Groups → Parked Groups lists everything parked, and restores from there. Nothing is destroyed by parking.
Parking changes figures, and that is intended
A balance that netted a parked group's movements no longer does. A computed parameter that used it no longer resolves it. If you park a group and a total elsewhere moves, that is the mechanism working — check that you wanted parking rather than hiding.
Which one do I want?
Ask what should happen to the numbers.
Do I still want this group counted in my totals?
Yes → hide it. No → park it.
After hiding on a shared device
Trackapt caches parts of the app on your device so it works on a poor connection. Very occasionally a group's visibility takes a moment to catch up on a device that was offline when the change was made. Reloading the page settles it.
